The Lerner & Loewe Broadway hit about a magical Scottish village has brought together kinfolk from throughout Upper Merion and its environs to form the clans of MacLaren, MacGuffie, Dalrymple and others. The King of Prussia Players's largest cast in years is performing under the vocal instruction of Lisa Knorr who is teaching even the youngest chorus members to sing in 5- and 6-part harmony. "These kids are going to astound their music teachers in the fall," notes director Larry Anderson. The choreography, adapted from Agnes de Mille's original work for the New York production by Collette Anderson, is equally ambitious. Taking the leads for such classic songs as "Almost Like Being in Love," "The Heather on the Hill," "The Love of My Life," and "From This Day On" are George Waldie, Paul Mansfield, Collette Anderson and Patty Bowman. George Waldie plays Tommy Albright, a jaded New Yorker who is vacationing in Scotland with his sardonic friend Jeff Douglas (Mansfield). While hiking in the hills, they come upon a picture-perfect town tucked away from tourists. Brigadoon is apparently so remote that it isn't even listed on their map. They decide to stay for a wedding between a couple of love-struck villagers, and meet two very different women: the charming Fiona MacLaren (Anderson) and bold Meg Brockie (Bowman). The men also make a shocking discovery: Brigadoon is still caught in the 18th century. Magic brings the sleeping townsfolk to life only once every 100 years. Over the course of the special day Tommy and Fiona fall in love, while Jeff and Meg share their own unique kind of courtship. Then tragedy threatens Brigadoon's very existence, and Tommy's uncertainty breaks Fiona's heart. As the mists enfold the village, Tommy learns that love can craft a miracle as his deepest dreams come true. "Brigadoon" will be performed at the air-conditioned Upper Merion Area High School August 2, 3, 9 & 10 at 8p.m., and August 4 at 2p.m. For more information, call 610 277-9505 or visit the website at www.kofpplayers.org
