The King of Prussia Players offer a night of comedy with Philly flair as they showcase two works by Bill Wine, a local playwright who is also the KYW movie critic and La Salle University professor. "Mixed Doubles," which is making its local debut, is a modern comedy of manners that uses tennis as a metaphor to explore the give and take of marriage. Three couples, Robbie and Kristine (Jim Ludovici and Allison Ector), Larry and Vivian (Barry Childress and Diane Stevens), and Frank and Marcy (George Letkiewicz and Sandi Liberatori) find themselves sparring on and off the court when they take part in a research project on relationships in exchange for free access to their country club's facilities. The couples' views on friendship, love, marriage, careers, children, faith and fidelity come into play when an unexpected turn of events tests their bonds and reminds them that life is not a game. In "Parentheses," romance is given an unusual helping hand. A first-grade teacher (Jessica L. Kohn) prepares for a typical meeting on parent-teacher conference night. She's stunned when a student's outraged father (T. Patrick Ryan) storms in accusing her of mistreating his little girl. But all is not as it appears, as the wily child in question is playing Cupid for her single dad. "Mixed Doubles" and "Parentheses" will be performed by the King of Prussia Players Feb. 6, 7, 13 and 14 at 8pm at the Upper Merion Area High School in King of Prussia.
