The King of Prussia Players presents a classic American drama that explores the debate between scientific evidence and religious belief. "Inherit the Wind," directed by Larry Anderson, is based on the events of the 1925 Scopes Trial, but the questions and ideas at its core still reverberate today in communities across the country. The small burg of Hillsboro becomes the center of a media circus when science teacher Bertram Cates (Troy Fisher) is arrested for teaching evolution. Acclaimed orator Matthew Harrison Brady (Dan Gudema) descends upon the town in grand style to prosecute the case, anxious to return the Bible story of creation to the classroom. Henry Drummond (Lawrence Geller) arrives more quietly, but he's no less determined to win the chance for students to hear scientists' explanations of human origins. The clashes in court are reflected in the more personal struggle of teacher Rachel Brown (Sarah Dalton). She is trying to reconcile loyalty to her father, Rev. Brown (Paul Perrymore), with her awakening independence and growing affection for Bertram. And the townspeople begin to feel the glare of the spotlight under the attentions of newshounds such as E.K. Hornbeck (Brian Schwartz). As tensions rise and voices become more strident, essential questions of life, freedom, belief and truth ensure Hillsboro will never be the same.
